General Updates
- Nursery: C4 received a small grant for nursery refurbishment. Additional funding approval is pending to cover cost increases. A working bee is needed to clean and reorganise the area, with more volunteers required.
- Gurrbum: Gurrbum has been confirmed as a viable site for Terrain’s Cassowary Credits. Funding has been requested to repair access road damage from TC Jasper.
- Boyett Road Weed Control: Weed removal along Boyett Road continues under the Resilient Forests project, with Terrain support.
Volunteers & Membership
- Ongoing efforts to engage interested volunteers, including a recent website sign-up for nursery work and a proposals from international research students
- New membership signs have been printed and placed around Environment Centre
- Monthly morning teas will begin this month on Fridays from 10.30, all welcome.
- Invites to go to members and volunteers as well as our social media.
Communications
- Website content has been updated to include “Land Protection”
- A monthly Member Newsletter is being relaunched
- Email transition is underway from c4mission@gmail.com to hello@cassowaryconservation.org. Management emails are being updated. Peter Rowles now uses president@cassowaryconservation.org
Projects & Partnerships
- Square by Square: Ongoing promotion; no major updates.
- Carey Baptist Grammar: C4 is partnering on a large beach restoration project with the school’s year 10 students. Student groups to visit across Terms 2 and 3. A risk assessment is needed for local wildlife.
Organisational & Financial
- General Meeting: Schedule for April 26. Steve confirmed as guest speaker. Invitations to be sent online and via email.
- Treasurer update: Ross resigned as Treasurer on March 4.
- ACNC: October 2024 report is still pending. Updates to ACNC records, including current contact details to be made.
Cassowary Connections
- C4 will provide a Letter of Support for pending revegetation grant application near Lot 66. QTFN to support reveg efforts on the opposite creek bank.
- Lot 66 sale is on hold. Future use may include improvements to signage and road access.
Key Decisions
- C4 agreed to fund the difference between CCRC grant support and actual nursery bench costs.
- Volunteer workers insurance will be renewed with Rivers for another term.
