Habitat Conservation

Land Buyback Initiative

At the heart of our habitat conservation and restoration work is the Land Buyback Initiative. Funding for this initiative is used to purchase land and establish it as a nature refuge under a legally binding conservation agreement.

Once protected, the land is resold to grow the network of privately owned conservation areas in Queensland. Proceeds from each sale are then reinvested into acquiring additional land and supporting critical biodiversity projects.

Land Restoration

At C4, our land restoration initiatives focus on revegetation efforts that support the unique coastal and rainforest ecosystems of Mission Beach and the Wet Tropics.

By collecting seeds from the local environment—including some from cassowary scat—we grow native plants in our C4 Native Plant Nursery. Specialising in over 200 varieties of local species, like Ooray, Boodyarra, and Golden Penda, our nursery offers an alternative to traditional options, prioritising plants that enhance local biodiversity and support native wildlife.

Each plant is carefully propagated from seed by our dedicated volunteers and is used in our revegetation projects across the region. To read more about our revegetation projects, use the links below. The Native Plant Nursery in Mission Beach is open for visits on Tuesdays or Fridays.
