New proposed development: Alexander Drive Mission Beach

A new development application has been lodged for 87 and 113 Alexander Drive in Mission Beach. Because it is an impact assessable proposal, Council is required to publicly notify it and invite community feedback. That period has now begun.

Proposed Development Alexander Drive

We know our members care deeply about how development sits within the landscape here. Mission Beach is a place where rainforest, rural properties, quiet residential living, and nature based tourism all meet. When new proposals come forward, it is important our community understands what is being planned and what it could mean for the environment, amenity and nearby residents.

What is being proposed

According to the documents lodged with Council (MCU250032) the applicant is seeking approval for:

  • A tourist park with
    • Seven self-contained studio pods
    • A camping area with 17 sites, including a mix of tent sites and caravan bays
    • A shared amenities block
  • Short-term accommodation in the existing 11-bedroom house on Lot 5 (currently used as an Airbnb)
  • A rural industry use involving produce packing (banana packing) in an expanded and repurposed existing shed
  • Occasional events on a cleared lawn area
  • A boundary realignment between Lots 40 and 41, transferring about 1.2 ha from one lot to the other
  • Guest access to walking and mountain bike trails on the property

The development aims to host up to 70 guests across all the accommodation types. The events are described as occasional and small scale. No new vegetation clearing is proposed.

A Notice of Intention to Start Public Notification confirms the public comment period runs 13 November to 4 December 2025.

Where is it?

The site covers three adjoining lots on Alexander Drive, stretching up towards Clump Mountain and including the watercourse of Wylies Creek. The land sits within a mix of rural residential properties, conservation areas and farmland.

Some parts of the site are mapped as having environmental significance under state and local planning overlays. The application states that all new buildings will be located in already cleared areas.

Have your say

Mission Beach sits within a highly sensitive landscape where small decisions can have large effects. The community can consider whether the location, scale, traffic, noise, and environmental setting are compatible with what we value most about this part of the region.

All development documents, including maps and technical reports, can be viewed on Council’s website here. The application reference number is MCU25/0032.

Anyone can provide feedback during the public notification period. Submissions:

  • Must be received by 4 December 2025
  • Must include your name and address
  • Should reference the application number MCU25/0032
  • Can support, oppose or request conditions on the proposal
  • Can be emailed to Council at planning@ccrc.qld.gov.au or lodged through Council’s online portal

A short submission in your own words is enough. You do not need technical expertise. Focus on what matters to you, such as environment, wildlife, water, amenity, traffic, noise, rural character or community expectations for development in this area.
