Agenda & Minutes

  1. Welcome & Introductions
    • Attendees:  Peter Trott, Peter Rowles, Jeff Larson, Helen Larson, Kate Blank
    • Apologies: Lyn Mattingley and Ross Mattingley
  2. Review Previous Meeting Minutes
    • Accepted
  3. Financial Report
    • Overview of income and expenditures was skipped due to Treasurer apologies
  4. Project Updates
    • Garners Beach Facility:
      • DES is working out a release plan for Friday and his two Chicks. Need to dehumanise proactively; No food directly given to cassowaries, all food to be spread/hidden, encourage foraging.
      • Approval to begin scoping digital note taking for the facility to improve communications and analysis of rehabilitation efforts. 
    • Native Plant Nursery:
      • Needs a working bee to clean up the Nursery area, needs more than a few volunteers
    • Arboretum:
      • Need to put a proposal to the Council for picnic tables to be added to the Arboretum and front of Visitor Information Centre
  5. New Business
    • Square by Square Pilot for Djarawong
      • Management team presented their concerns over the Contract and proposed a pilot partnership with Square by Square. 
      • Management team and Henk from Square by Square had a video call to discuss
      • Next steps to review the amended contract and seek legal guidance
    • Review of Building and Surrounds
      • C4 is conducting a groundskeeping, maintenance and safety audit in conjunction with the Visitor Information Centre given the recent weather events experienced in Mission Beach (and the wider cassowary coast).
      • Audit results will be passed along to the Council for review.
    • Management Team Updates
      • Due to the inability of our current Secretary to carry out duties, the Management Team has appointed an interim Secretary: Kate Blank. 
    • Term Deposit from Bendigo Bank
      • We have 5 days to determine if we want to roll over the term deposit again 4%
      • Another option is a managed fund (Select 90) 4.6% for 3-months not as secure
      • Can they increase the rate to match Macquarie at 5.35%?
    • New Funding Rounds
      • Community Gambling Fund is open for Community Projects
      • CCRC Community Fund is open for Community Projects
    • Education Program
      • Carey Baptist Grammar have reached out to collaborate on a program for their Year 10 students. C4 would like to propose a longer-running project based program for the students. We will call to arrange a time to meet.
  6. Upcoming Events
    • Planning for the upcoming year’s calendar of events – postponed until next meeting
  7. Other Business
    • Press – There may be an article about cassowaries coming out CNN HK – if it’s positive we should post it to social media.
    • News – We are developing a range of news articles for the website to announce important updates from the CRT Meeting
    • Emails – The migration from c4mission@gmail.com to our new domain has begun; Main office computers will be set-up with the new email.
    • Data Migration – documents are being migrated from our old Drive into our new cloud environment over the course of the coming months.

    • The next meeting of the management committee and members will be on March 3rd, 2025.
